Intelligent Antennas

Mesh4G technology uses intelligent antennas (IA) as a means to link two or more points. Each antenna forms a link in the 2.4GHz or 5GHz spectrum and changes the frequency and width of the transmission dynamically dependent on interference and strength of signal. The units are capable of transmitting at up to 4 watts (the UK legal limit for 5.8GHz) and have a range of some 8km or more dependent on line of sight and either environmental factors.

These units are sold in pairs for point to point links or in clusters for point to multi-point links (used where a number of devices need to be connected to a single antenna).

The antennas are sold by type the dBi rating specifies how powerful the antenna is, each 3dBi is equivalent to a doubling of the power of the antenna. As the antennas get higher power readings, they tend to be larger and the width of the beam decreases. This means that other radios are less likely to interfere with them.

Radios are split into two types, directional and omni-directional, the omni-directional antennas are good for connecting a number of antennas to the network but they tend to have lower power ratings and are more prone to interference.

IA’s operate mainly with multiple polarity, this means that in a normal antenna the radio waves appear as a sine wave in a vertical direction, however when they bounce of a building they will appear at maybe at 45˚ this means the receiving antennas losses half the signal. With Dual polarity the radios connect at both a horizontal beam and a vertical beam allowing any signal to be visible to either or both the antenna receivers  Triple polarity antennas are used to give higher bandwidths and use a mixture of Spacial diversity and polarity to provide higher bandwidths on longer distances or where a number of devices are to be connected to a single point.

QCMR is the radio technology employed in Mesh4G systems, Quad Channel Military Radio provides 4 channels of real time streamed data. Using a pair of dual polarised antennas and a rapid change in frequency and direction as well as Time Division Multiplexing these radio are not visible on Iphone, x-Box or any other commercial product. Each pair of radios uses a unique digital encryption AES128 to provide a secure link between radios.

Intelligent Antennas can be used on a simple link between two points or combined with VMAe Mesh nodes to make clusters of devices. These can then be connected to other clusters to form a mesh.
