High bandwidth on-street networking for Smart City growth and development.

What is Mesh 5G?

Mesh 5G provides high bandwidth communications to on-street devices using the 5Ghz spectrum with advanced TDMA protocols.

It was developed in 2003 and has since been deployed in over 42 towns and cities across the United Kingdom.

By deploying a Mesh 5G installation local authorities and governments can deploy or connect Traffic Lights, CCTV, VMS, Bus Stops and many others without the need for a costly backhaul or cable connection at each site.

Mesh 5G Enables Smart Cities

Smarter Infrastructure

Mesh 5G provides a smart connection to on-street equipment allowing any type of device to be added and made available anywhere in the city without additional revenue costs.

Smarter Information

With an accessible method of adding low-cost measuring devices and sensors, more relevant information can be made available so decisions can be made with the best possible knowledge.

Smarter Management

With detailed on street real-time knowledge, advanced management systems can analyse huge quantities of data in real time providing city planners with all the information required to make positive changes to a city.

Smarter City

Using predictive software and trend analysis a Smart City can provide local authorities and government the tools needed to better utilise its assets, from autonomous vehicles to waste management.

Components

Mesh Adaptor

The VMAe mesh unit is the primary building block of Mesh infrastructure, it is capable of connecting and powering up to 4 devices, of which two are usually communications systems and provides Meshed routing between them.

It uses advanced algorithms to optimise the communications equipment connected to it to ensure maximum consistent performance.

Intelligent Antenna

Intelligent Antennae (IA) provide high speed, high quality long-range communications to roadside mounted VMAe units.

They are designed to operate in pairs allowing them to create a highly secure communication link that cannot be accessed by any other radio for maximum security..

Mesh Switch

Local Mesh Switches provide connectivity to equipment mounted in roadside cabinets (such as OTUs / modems) as well as backhaul capabilities.

These switches act as gateways to the Mesh 4G network for non-mesh equipment to be routed.

In some configurations they provide passive PoE to compatible devices.

Central Mesh Controller

The Central Mesh Controller (CMC) is the sophisticated core of the Mesh network, providing advanced management and defining network routes calculated by path-finding algorithms.

By constantly monitoring all devices connected to the Mesh, the CMC is able to rapidly detect faults and alter the Mesh to ensure there is as little down-time as possible. Using its management interface it allows users to identify problem or low-signal areas.

Central Mesh Router

The Central Mesh Router (CMR) connects all on-street devices together providing routes between deployed equipment and local or remote servers.

The CMR allows seamless routing of data between fixed and wireless network infrastructure using a proprietary QCMR protocol to provide maximum availability to on-street equipment.

Easy Mounting

Mesh 5G equipment is supplemented by easy to use mounting kits for all types of street-furniture.

Thanks to the unique mounting pole, most Mesh 5G configurations can be installed without a cherry picker, reducing installation cost across the board.
